We are thrilled to offer you the opportunity to experience the beautiful harmony of Integrative Rest or iRest.

iRest is a simple and accessible guided meditation practice based on the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra and adapted to suit the conditions of modern life.

When practiced regularly - a little and often - iRest enables you to meet each moment of your life with unshakable peace and wellbeing, no matter how challenging or difficult your situation. We love it so much and believe it to be such a wonderful addition to yoga practice and teaching, we offer some experience to our CoreYoga teachers-in-training, and now we are offering it to you!

Developed by Dr. Richard Miller, a spiritual teacher, author, yogic scholar, researcher and clinical psychologist, he combined traditional yogic practice with Western psychology and neuroscience. Sounds like it's totally on our CoreYoga wavelength, and we have the best practitioner to share these practices with you!

Yoga Nidra ~ Going deeper

Yoga Nidra is a secular (non-religious) process of meditative self-inquiry derived from the teachings of Yoga. Yoga reflects a nondual understanding of reality: it merges the human with the sacred, and is practiced in the world, by embracing everything, just as it is, and rejecting nothing. Various yogis have revitalized the practice of Yoga Nidra during the past half century, most notably Swami Sivananda. iRest is a modern adaptation of this.

Nidra means "sleep" or "changing states of consciousness"
In the context of Yoga Nidra, it refers to your capacity to abide knowingly as a nondual, unchanging, and wakeful Presence in the midst of the changing circumstances of life.

Some Common Misconceptions about Meditation:

  • You dont have to practice seated, you may stand, lie down or walk
  • There are many different types of meditation and we aim to share with you the variety to help you find what resonates with you
  • The main goal is not to make the mind still and quiet. Through practice we learn skills and develop resources for stable, non-reactive attention
  • Come as you are. There is no need to have previous experience, and likewise we welcome those with experience

About Rebecca Deacon:

Rebecca is a clinically trained psychologist, meditation teacher, and CoreYoga teacher.

Her teaching draws on many years of personal practice and clinical experience in supporting others to overcome barriers to self-compassion, as well as her formal training through the USCD Center for Mindfulness. Rebecca has also trained with several inspirational leaders at the forefront of the integration between traditional meditation practices within contemporary psychological science, including the founder of Compassion Focused Therapy, Professor Paul Gilbert, OBE, MSC co-developer Chris Germer, PhD, and neuropsychologist Rick Hanson, PhD. Rebecca is currently engaged in ongoing research examining compassion fatigue and occupational stress in caregiving professionals.

 

 

Please note: Whilst meditation can be an incredibly helpful tool in transforming and healing psychological distress, we will be welcoming a range of emotions in this meditation course that could be potentially triggering if you are feeling unsafe or overwhelmed right now. If you are currently experiencing moderate to severe depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, suicidal ideation, or otherwise not feeling emotionally stable, and you do not have the support of a trusted therapist, we recommend talking to your GP about finding a therapist who can support you in feeling more stable, before you enrol in a meditation course.
